5 / Bird Watching
Keep an eye out for a variety of bird species, including ospreys and egrets. Smith Island hosts the Chesapeake's largest Brown Pelican colony, with more 2,000 birds utilizing the Island's shoreline as their annual nesting location.
6 / Martin National Wildlife Refuge
A 4,500-acre wetland, covering the northern half of Smith Island. Much of the refuge can be seen by boat. There is a small sandy area where you can observe wildlife from the water.
